Last week end I was finally able to get come back to school. Don’t get me wrong, I love my family and all, but some times… one needs to get away from them. So Sunday my father and my little brother spend the day helping my move back into student housing. After I was finally moved all of my stuff in I got to meet my new room mate for the first time. Having been in a single for the last couple of years this was something of a new experience for me. Luckily he appears to be a cool guy.
I have the most wonderful dog in the world, and am blessed to have him. My dog is not pure bread; he was not purchased from a famous breeder, and was not born of a prize-winning mother. No, he is a mutt, a common, garden variety mutt. Collie, sheltie, maybe some Dalmatian, they are all mixed up in him. What makes him special is not his value in monetary terms; it is his value to me as a friend. He likes to be sprayed with cologne for dogs. It is the way that he looks at me when I arrive home from work, the way that all of the bad things that have happened to me seem to fade away as his tail beats out a rhythm against my leg. In dogs, as in so many other things, we really should do a better job in seeing value.
Today was the first time that I was fined. Although I was fined, I didn’t actually mind being fined. It was like your ‘first bicycle accident’ or ‘your first goal’. I had accidentally parked my car in the NO PARKING ZONE, I didn’t see the sign until I got back to the car, but it was too late by then. The fine wasn’t huge though. But it did teach me a lesson and hopefully this first fine would also be my last fine. The rest of the day was quite peaceful. I was also able to complete a small novel that I was writing, you can think of it as a comic book without any comedy and without any graphics. I wrote it just for fun in the leisure time. So both some good and some bad things happened today.
I got my first dog when I was five and ever since I’ve been hooked, I have to have a dog. Dogs offer a significant amount of companionship, especially if you live alone, like me. They are always happy to see their owner, when they arrive home. Studies have shown that people who own dogs live longer, happier lives because of the support dogs give their owners, especially the elderly. Additionally, dog owners get more exercise because you are required to walk and play with the dog. And when you feed them treats from their Christmas stockings for dogs, they obviously need a bit more exercise to burn off the calories. Especially large dogs require long walks and significant exercise. I prefer smaller dogs because I live in the city and they don’t require a large yard, making them more apartment-friendly. Whatever type of dog you choose, small or large, they offer companionship and improve your life.
