Under the Umbrella of Pop

I love music. When I thought my iPod was stolen, I was prepared to spend my Student Loan money on a new one so I wouldn’t have to go without my music. I generally enjoy listening to different types of pop. I like fun songs I can sing along to, rock out to when I get the urge to sing in the mirror with my hairbrush, cry to when I’m having a rough week and just relax to when I’m reading a  book. Just saying I like listening to pop is like saying I like to eat food. There are so many different genres that fall under the “pop umbrella”. If I’m angry or upset and need something to relax me, I’m gonna turn on Josh Groban, who can instantly calm my nerves (he’s also great to drive to if you are a stressful driver!)

If I want to rock out in mirror, I blast Hedley, singing and dancing to every song.

Basement Apartment Living

I am a college student living with my boyfriend in the basement of a house. Right now, I love it. It’s perfect. However, in about a week and half, things are not going to be so great.  Our old upstairs neighbours moved out at the end of January. We’ve had no one above us since. We can watch movies and play video games, shower and do laundry at any time of the day and no bother anyone. Come March 1 though, we have new neighbours moving in. A woman and her 2 year old child. This will put a damper on our life here, now we will have to worry about waking the toddler or being too noisy for the mom. This may, however, provide a chance for some income, if she needs a babysitter.  Overall living in a basement apartment is great for where we are in our lives. I’m going to college, my boyfriend works in a hotel. We have no children and no really great pieces of furniture to show off. Our rent includes utilities, cable TV and laundry, which if we were in our own place in our current stage of life, we wouldn’t be able to afford. One thing I really dislike about renting another person’s place is you can’t make the decision for yourself if you want a pet or not. We  are both dog and cat lovers and wish we could have one of each, but unfortunately our landlord doesn’t approve.

It was the cutest dog bed I had ever seen

YouTube Preview Image The colors perfectly matched the pillows on my couch. What a nice little addition to my family room! The bed looked like a beach ball that someone had just let the air out of the middle. The appearance was that of a deflated donut and our mini Doxie fit perfectly inside the indented part. Welllllll, what I mean to say is…….our mini Doxie WOULD fit perfectly in the middle, if she ever actually decided to sleep there. The fabric was flannel, so warm and cozy! What dog WOULDN”T like it? ( refer to previous sentence) Heck, what human wouldn’t like it??? Just let me end this little story by telling you, the doggie bed is now home to the many, many, toys our dear little “Vegas” owns. The true dog beds in our home is a king size Sterns and Foster that cost just under $3500. Not bad, huh? Vegas claims her spot in the middle stretched out from side to side. I know I mentioned she is a “mini” , but let me reiterate…dachshund, doxie…..weiner dog….loooooonnnnnnggggg doggie. So that little mini takes up about 36 inches of the middle of the bed. Get the picture??

Valentine’s Day Lunch

This past Valentine’s Day, my boyfriend and I decided to go for a nice easy-paced drive in our area. We’re fairly new here and for the majority of the time we have been here, it’s been winter. We ended up in a nice, quaint little town. There was a small downtown, lined with shops and restaurants, all locally owned, no chains. We decided to have lunch at a place called Denny’s Cafe. It was very “small-townish”. Nothing fancy what-so-ever, just a normal coffee shop. The service and food however, were exceptional!  There was one server, a cook and the owner. That’s all. While we were waiting for our food, the server’s husband and daughter came in for lunch. She introduced everyone in the shop to them. The owner came out and had a chat with them. These are all things that you just don’t see in chains or franchises.  Our food came and were surprised yet again. Being it wasn’t a fancy place, they didn’t have a fancy menu. I ordered a Cheeseburger and a Poutine (Fries, cheese and gravy. Yes, I’m Canadian). It was probably the most unhealthy yet most deliciously satisfying meal I’ve had in a long time. We were very impressed and would recommend the restaurant to anyone willing to sacrifice a bit of decor for better service and food.
