My 6 year old Chihuahua Daisy spends most of her days sleeping in the rays of sun that enter through my patio door. Occasionally, I take her on a long walk through the downtown squares of dog-friendly Savannah, Georgia. She knows this is a special occasion and truly enjoys walking through the parks and meeting the other dogs. At first I can tell she is nervous, but within 20 minutes she is prancing through the streets as if she owns them. Many of the shops downtown love to have canine visitors and there are even several shops that cater to dogs and their owners, like the clothes shop that sells a dog hooded sweatshirt. When Daisy comes across dogs her own size she seems interested but unimpressed. However when a large dog passes by, she becomes fascinated! It’s not unusual for her to prance right up to a dog 20 times the size of her and want to play. After a few hours of walking, I can tell Daisy is becoming tired and wants to be carried back to the car. The car ride home is spent napping in the sun shining through the back windows.
